Pre-requisites
Before completing the process, we need to make sure these things are in place.
- Shopify Plus stores: Shopify checkout app blocks are only available for Shopify Plus stores.
- Loop plan: Only available for stores on Loop Starter (previously Growth) and Pro (previously Enterprise) plan
How to set it up?
You can set up the checkout upgrade in under 1 minute using a four-step process.
- Customise widget content: Navigate to Loop admin > Acquire > Checkout upgrades > Widget. You can configure banner and button text separately for multiple lines, adjusting the content based on the number of products available for upgrade at checkout.
- Check Selling Plan Availability: Ensure that the existing or new selling plans are available on "Checkout". Only one selling plan will be picked per product based on Checkout availability and priority order.
- Add Loop Blocks in Checkout: Navigate to Loop Admin > Upsells > Checkout, and click Add Loop block.
- Shopify checkout editor will open with the published theme. Add "Upgrade to subscription" and "Upgrade banner" block from Loop Subscriptions
- Enable the Widget: Navigate to Loop admin > Upsells > Checkout, and ensure the "Upgrade to subscription" widget is enabled on Loop admin.
Key highlights
- One-Click Conversion & Seamless Upgrade: Allow shoppers to instantly switch from one-time to subscription or upgrade multiple products with a single click, enhancing the checkout experience and driving higher conversion rates.
- Ultimate Flexibility: Empower customers to select their preferred subscription frequency or even downgrade to a one-time purchase, all within the checkout flow.
- Mobile-Friendly & Engaging Banners: Leverage customizable, mobile-friendly checkout banners to quickly highlight subscription benefits and offer incentives, ensuring better visibility and conversion, especially on mobile devices.
- Data-Driven Control: Easily manage subscription upsell widgets, track performance, and make informed decisions to optimize conversion rates.
- Shopify Compatibility: Overcome Shopify's limitation of HTML-enabled content on checkout, making it easier to present upgrade options and improve user experience.
Customer experience
Customers will see a banner with an option to upgrade to subscription or upgrade all eligible products, depending on the number of products eligible for upgrades at checkout. The banner will display either "Checkout banner before upgrade" or "Checkout banner after upgrade" based on the product's upgrade status.
- One Product Eligible for Upgrade: When only one product is eligible for upgrade, the customer will see an "Upgrade to subscription" banner with the option to select the preferred subscription frequency for that product. The "Checkout banner before upgrade" will be displayed.
- Multiple Products Eligible for Upgrade: When multiple products are eligible for upgrade, a banner will show the option to upgrade all eligible products to subscription. The customer will see a dropdown to select a common frequency for all products, with the fastest frequency selected by default. The "Checkout banner before upgrade" will be displayed.
- All Products Upgraded to Subscription: When all products have been upgraded to subscription, the customer will see a confirmation of their subscription status and the option to manage delivery frequency or downgrade to a one-time purchase. The "Checkout banner after upgrade" will be displayed.
Things to keep in mind
- Bundles: For bundles, upgrade works only if the bundle’s selling plan is available on checkout, and “Hide bundle selling plan on individual product pages” is disabled
- Prepaid plans: Not eligible for subscription upsell at checkout.
- Free items: Products priced at $0 (e.g., gifts) won’t show upgrade options.
- Bundle items: Items added as one-time within a bundle can't be upgraded individually.
