Gift instead of skip

Gift instead of skip is a feature that allows subscribers to gift their upcoming order instead of skipping it. Rather than simply bypassing a delivery, subscribers can choose to send their order as a thoughtful gift to a friend, family member, or colleague.

This transforms what would have been a skipped order into a meaningful and engaging experience for both the subscriber and the recipient.

Gift instead of skip feature is available exclusively on the Loop Pro plan.

Setting up gift instead of skip in Loop

It’s a one-click configuration that’s easy to set up!

Pre-requisites

Before enabling the setting, we need to make sure these things are in place.

✅ The customer should have at least one active subscription with the store.

✅ The option called Skip order should be enabled.

If the above prerequisites are met, follow these steps to complete the process.

  1. Navigate to  Loop admin > Customer portal > Preferences > Order actions > Skip order.

  1. Enable the option "Allow customers to gift an order instead of skipping" and click the Save button.

Note: Text related to the "Gift instead of skip" feature can be configured under Loop admin > Customer Portal > Themes > Skip order flow texts.

Customer portal experience

When subscribers log into the customer portal and choose to skip an order, they’ll now see an enhanced experience as follows.

  1. The subscriber logs into the customer portal and click the "Skip order" button.

  1. Subscriber will see 2 options - "Skip order" or "Gift upcoming order"

  1. On selecting "Gift upcoming order", a side drawer opens where they will enter the recipient’s details (name, email, and shipping information).

  1. Fill in the required recipient details and click on the "Gift this order" button. The order will be charged immediately and placed successfully.

Note: The shipping price will be calculated based on the recipient's address. If the address is undeliverable, an error message will be displayed to the subscriber.

  1. The subscriber’s upcoming order schedule remains unchanged, and only the next upcoming order was sent as a gift, ensuring their regular subscription cycle continues seamlessly.

Admin portal experience

When the admin logs into the portal and opens a subscription contract, the following details are visible on the admin side.

  1. The gifted order will appear in the order schedule with a "Gift" badge, indicating that it has been gifted.

  1. Detailed activity logs will capture the gift activity, ensuring full transparency for admins. After the gift order is processed, the newly added address and updated shipping price will be reverted to the original address and shipping price in the subscription contract, ensuring the original contract remains unchanged.

Reports

To help brands measure and track the impact of the Gift instead of skip feature, Loop provides dedicated reporting updates as given below.

  1. A new "Gift instead of skip" column has been added to the Processed orders report, showing a Boolean value (True/False) for each order.

  1. The Subscription activity logs report now includes a filter for the event type "order_gifted_instead_of_skip", providing detailed insights into gifting activities.

Considerations

While Gift instead of skip is a powerful way to prevent revenue leakage from skipped orders, there are a few limitations to keep in mind, as given below.

  • The feature is available only for shipping or local delivery subscriptions (not applicable for store pickups).
  • It is not supported for Zapiet stores.
  • It does not apply to subscriptions with anchor configurations.
