Razor and Blade Model using Loop Flows

In the Razor and Blade model, customers purchase a base product and are then encouraged to subscribe for additional, complementary products. Examples include:

Coffee roaster & coffee beans
Water purifier & replacement filters
Razor & blades
Amazon Kindle & e-books

If this model fits your business, using Bundles and Loop Flows on your Shopify store can help you efficiently set up and manage these offerings, ensuring a seamless subscription experience for your customers.

Configuration of Bundle

To set-up a flow for removing the razor handle from subscription after the first order, we will be creating a bundle.
We will be creating a "The Razor Starter Set" bundle & will include two products "Razor Handle" & "Refill Blades" in it with a selling plan mapped with a frequency of deliver every two months.

Now as a part of the next step, we will be creating a flow to split this bundle after the first order.

Configuration of Flow

With this flow we will be splitting this bundle & will be removing Razor handle from the second order of this subscription.

Step 1: Access the loop flows UI by going to Loop > Flows.

Step 2: Click Create Flow and give a name to your flow - “The Razor Starter Set Flow"

Step 3: As we want to remove the razor handle from the second order of the subscription, We will select the WHEN trigger as "A new subscription is created"

Step 4: In IF condition, we will select bundle based condition and select "Bundles in subscription". It will show us the list of the bundles we have on your store.

Step 5: From the list of bundles, select the bundle "The Razor Starter Set".

Step 6: Select Add Action and then choose "Split bundle into individual items". It will show the list of bundles again on your store. Select the bundle "The Razor Starter Set".

Step 7: Select Add Action & add one more action of removing the product from subscription & remove product "Razor Handle" from the list of products which will pop-up.

Final set-up should look like this:

Step 8: Save the flow & set the status to Active to activate the flow.
